Kindergarten Cop 2

kindergarten cop 2Throughout his career Dolph Lundgren has been linked with Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Because they are both muscular European men who have made a living starring in action films, I guess.  Now Lundgren is following even closer in Arnold’s footsteps in that he is starring in a sequel to a film which featured Schwarzenegger.

A sequel that probably never should have been even thought of.  One that really brings nothing new to the cinematic table.  It really is a rehash of the fish out of water film in which a big, brawny, tough FBI agent goes undercover as a teacher in a kindergarten class.  Because we have seen it pretty much all before the jokes are even lamer this time around.

A kindergarten teacher has been killed because he was in possession of some sensitive stolen data.  Seasoned FBI Agent Reed (Dolph Lundgren – Universal Soldier, The Expendables) is sent in undercover as the new kindergarten teacher with the aim of him locating the stolen data – a witness protection list.  Seems like a simple enough task for someone of his experience to accomplish.  That shows how little people know about 6-year-olds.  Making his assignment even tougher is that gangster Zogu (Aleks Paunovic – This Means War, I Spy) is also after the stolen data in that it will keep him out of jail.

The original film was not earth shattering but rather cute and enjoyable.  The warm feelings felt towards that film are not extended to the sequel.  This straight-to-video fare tries hard but in the end it fails.  Even more so than Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren is stiff and wooden in his acting.  The original film worked because the interactions between Arnold and the kids were funny.  Such is not the case this time as Lundgren just seems not sure how to act with or react to the young actors.  So the comedy portion of the film does not work and so you turn to the action.  Even that is a disappointment. Very predictable and nothing really at stake.
