Rare Opportunity: The Cure Live

the cure live 2016Since their formation in 1976 British band The Cure has only had one member remain consistent, but he is the most important member of the band.  Robert Smith has been the focal point of the band for 40 years.  The Cure began as part of the post punk or new wave collective of bands that came out of England during the early 80s.

At the beginning of the decade their music became more dark and goth.  Fans of that sort of stuff lapped it up.  As the 80s advance Robert Smith wanted to move away from the depressing and write more upbeat songs. This was a winning formula in regards to commercial success.  Singles like “Boys Don’t Cry”, “Lovesong” and “Friday I’m in Love” were released and their fanbase kept increasing.

After only appearing live infrequently after the turn of the century in 2015 the present incarnation of the band announced that they would embark on a small world tour in 2016.  Montreal was lucky enough to be one of the 26 cities to make the cut.
