Known best as an actress and the wife of actor Tom Hanks few know that Rita Wilson is also a singer. She has released a previous album to this self-titled one that featured her Broadway calibre voice. Once again it is an album filled with country pop songs written by some of the best song writers working today. There are loads of personal moments within the lyrics and using her acting muscles Wilson ably conveys the emotions involved in an authentic way. Nothing about this is going to blow the roof off or change music as we know it. It just slots in nicely to the middle of the road. Easy listening stuff. To emphasize this a track like “Crying Crying”, which is about Wilson’s recent fight against breast cancer, will really remind music fans of the sound that Carole King made famous. Sometimes her raspy voice is a little grating in this particular musical genre, but for the most part it works.
