Season two of the Star Trek television series is an important one as it introduces characters which are still being used 40 years later. For instance, this is the season where Chekov makes his appearance. Different trends and themes that crop up time and time again in this and the many different spin off series make their appearance in season two. For these reasons it is seen as one of the more important of all 29 seasons of Star Trek and its subsidiaries.

Season three is the weakest of the lot with lots of ups and downs in regards to quality. Here they focused on delivering some looks into the large questions facing science fiction series as well as indulging in plenty of comedic moments.

Though while it was originally on Star Trek never had good ratings; it has become one of the bigger sci-fi shows ever to air on television. It holds up today even without the advanced special effects. A series that gave rise to several others as well as feature length motion pictures.
