As a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers you have a tricky task ahead of you. Come to think of it, not just ahead of you but something you have to deal with today. Very few bands in rock ‘n roll have been able to age gracefully. Most try to cling to that young person’s lifestyle and end up looking like fools. Aging is tough in this industry. Like they have operated throughout their entire career the Red Hot Chili Peppers are attempting to do things their way. Meaning they are still going to rock but with some maturity. Produced by Danger Mouse and Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich, The Getaway is pure Chili Peppers in that it is filled with Flea’s filthy bass, grinding guitar work and Anthony Kiedis’s brawny and slinky vocals. This deep into their career they demonstrate on the track “Go Robot” that they still have the ability to occasionally surprise with their musical choices and sounds. This is a real funky dance track that is a mash up of late Seventies with 2014. Evolution continues on album number eleven though there are plenty of old school RHCP tracks here to keep long-time fans happy.
