When you have managed to maintain a music career for over five decades and have sold tens of millions of albums you know you have made a mark. The Doobie Brothers are just such a band. They have sold over 40 million albums, toured the world many times over and have existed in one form or another since 1970. Success has also been marked by being inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
Known primarily as a soft rock or blue-eyed soul band, The Doobie Brothers was most successful during their first decade of existence – the 70s. Hits came in the form of songs like “China Grove”, “Listen to the Music”, “Jesus is Alright”, “Black Water”, “Takin’ It to the Streets”, “It Keeps You Runnin”, “Take Me in Your Arms”, “What a Fool Believes”, and “Long Train Runnin”.
Former members like Michael McDonald, John Hartman and Dave Shogren are no longer with the band, but they still have an impressive number with 8 present members. Despite the coming and going they have managed to keep touring pretty much continuously since 1993.
