Montreal has always been an event kind of town. We show up in great numbers for special events. We like the thrill of one-offs. It has always been a boxing town as well with our Latin American, Russian and Irish communities being big supporters. It makes sense then that we have always had Quebec boxers who do well internationally and that promoters choose to hold big boxing matches here.
The latest fight will see David Lemieux (35-3, 32 KOs) take on little known Christian Fabian Rios (21-7-3, 6 KOs). This will be Lemieux’s first fight since 2015 when he lost his IBF Middleweight title to Gennady Golovkin. The 27-year-old is still ranked 4th in the world and has a shot at another title fight. Lemieux is not taking the fight or his opponent lightly. He wants no surprises on October 22nd.
Lemieux is very conscious of the pressures that come with fighting at home in front of fans all rooting for you. He will try to make this an exciting match against an opponent, who in all honesty, is clearly overmatched. The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds.
Tickets are never cheap for boxing matches, but you do get a lot for your money. There are always a fair number of fights on the undercard, so much so that the title fight usually only happens late into the night.
