Bubba Ho-Tep, starring Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis, gives a funny, imaginative, and thrilling face to low budget independent films. Based on a short story by Joe R. Lansdale, this film takes place in an old age home with not only an old version of Elvis Presley (Campbell), but also a black and aging John F. Kennedy (Davis). The two men put their heads together in order to find and kill an Egyptian mummy. The mummy roams the retirement home at night in search of people’s ‘arse holes.’
In case you’re wondering, this film is by no means a porno. Campbell does a great job at imitating the ‘King’s’ persona and makes the viewer believe that Elvis has indeed not left the building. Davis is equally superb as the black J.F.K. who believes that a part of his brain is still being tested on in Washington and that he was dyed black in order to render him unrecognizable.
Although the plot may seem far out, this film is entertaining, and combines charm and suspense. Don’t miss this wonderfully quirky film.
