From Progressive Rock to Straight Up Pop Rock – Marillion

marillion-live-2016Marillion have always been known for creating music that produces lush pictures in your mind as a result of listening to it.  The production and melodies all induce a dreamy-like quality that encourages your mind to participate.  For 25 or so years the band has been recording music that has changed from progressive rock to straight out pop rock.  Throughout though, they have maintained their own distinctive sound.

The English band formed in 1979 and were credited with creating the bridge between punk rock and progressive rock.  They have released 18 studio albums over their time together.  Their most popular songs are “Lavender” and “Kayleigh”.  Soundwise they were influenced by bands like Supertramp, the Beatles, Yes, and Pink Floyd.  Recognized as one of the first commercially successful bands to use the Internet to connect with fans beginning in the mid-90s.
