Jammed into a few days starting this weekend is the Montreal International Games Summit 2016. I say jammed because it is jammed packed with things industry people and gaming enthusiast absolutely salivate over. Anything new or coming up in the gaming industry will be found here. Run, don’t walk!
Master classes, expos, one on ones, and demos are all available. This year for the first time ever a new twist is being added in that there will also be a Technical Lounge. A new feature that will allow for one-on-one meetings with experts from the industry. You even get to choose the subject you talk about. There is even an online meeting app that you can use to schedule your meetings. Couldn’t be easier! The 16 different Master Classes will feature experts from around the world giving 3.5 or 7 hour classes on a particular issue within the gaming industry. Allows for you to learn or strengthen your knowledge about different subjects. The Live Demos happen in the Expo Zone and involve new games or products being introduced in quick and dirty 30 minute sessions. The schedules for all these options are online at www.migs16.com.
In the Expo Zone you will find booths from gaming studios, schools and training facilities, editors, distributors, service and product providers, and hardware/software providers. It is also possible to get a job or internship while attending the conference. If you are looking for work within the video game or digital entertainment industry then this is the place. Recruiters from the best and biggest companies will be on hand.
The fun doesn’t stop there as there is a ton of other cool stuff going on. A few examples include the Indie Pitch Contest 42 independent companies will be on hand to pitch their latest games. Attendees will vote to determine the winners. The IBM VIP Luncheon will feature Joshua Carr (of IBM), who will talk about different subjects including how to understand gamers emotions in real-time. IGDA Mentor Café happens in the Technical Lounge on November 13 and will see industry veterans coming together with up and comers to share their experience and knowledge. The Canadian Video Game Awards will occur in Montreal for the first time on November 15th. VIP Cocktail will see plenty of networking going on.
