Lykke Li. Tove Lo. Robyn. Zara Larsson. All successful Scandanavian female singers. Now you can add MØ to the bunch. You might think you don’t know her, but if you have listened to Top 40 radio in the last year or so then you do. She was the vocalist on the Major Lazer megahit “Lean On” and with Justin Bieber on the single “Cold Water” and before that the Iggy Azalea song “Beg For It”.
After releasing some solo stuff in 2006 and as part of the duo MØR between 2007 and 2011, she returned to working solo. In 2013 MØ released the single “Glass” and then the debut studio album No Mythologies to Follow in 2014. Songs released from the album included “Walk This Way”, “Don’t Wanna Dance” and “Pilgrim”. A sophomore album has not been released yet but the singles “Kamikaze”, “Final Song” and “Drum” have been already released.
Her music has been compared to Grimes’ and is said to be electro-pop with guts. Whatever she does there is that recognizable voice that is a mix of childlike and grittiness.
Her stage name MØ comes from her real name, Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen. It is pronounced like “mer” and in Danish means maiden or virgin.
