Netflix is certainly becoming a big player in the television series world. Meaning they are creating shows that people are watching. Jessica Jones (which was just recently reviewed here) and Daredevil, two characters out of the Marvel stable, have both recently debuted on the streaming service to great acclaim.
Daredevil had a good start but season two showed plenty of growth. It has gotten even better, folks! The main theme of the series is redemption vs. retribution. Plus not allowing vengeance to creep in there. It is rather more involved and nuanced than you might expect from a straight up superhero series. Be prepared!
Season two kicks off with Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) in jail. As a result, Matt (played by Charlie Cox) believes his attempt to rid the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York City of crime is a success. That feeling of triumph is shortlived, however, as two new baddies arrive in short order. And it is a situation of here we go again.
Frank Castle or The Punisher (played by Jon Bernthal) is a guy with plenty of baggage. A former soldier, who is not looking for his own version of retribution against those he feels have wronged him. And former girlfriend, Elektra Natchios (played by Elodie Yung) is now quite unhinged and unpredictable.
If that isn’t enough to keep our superhero busy, there is also an ancient evil form that is gathering strength The stakes are raised, the odds seemed stacked against the good guys and deaths keep happening. Matt is now beginning to really understand the huge demands asked of superheroes.
