Drown in Sound with LCD Soundsystem

If Beck teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys they would sound something like LCD soundsystem: Part disco, part punk-rock, all indie. Since 2002 they have been making music together led by frontman James Murphy. Creativity and marching to the beat of their own drum has been the name of the game for this outfit.

From 2002 to 2004 they just released a series of singles. Then in 2005 came their self-titled debut album and it earned them a Grammy Award nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album and another in the category of Best Dance Recording for their single “Daft Punk is Playing at My House”. Their next release was a lot less traditional. It was 45:33, an almost 46 minute composition that was conceived of as a workout track for Nike as a part of their Nike + Original Run series. 2007 saw a return to their acclaimed ways with a new album Sound of Silver which earned them another Grammy nomination in the Best Electronic/Dance Album category. Success continued with the 2010 release of This is Happening, which was their best seller in North America.

Sad news for fans in 2011 when the band announced they were breaking up. Thankfully at the end of 2015 they got back together and started recording music and touring. Just recently in September they released a new album, American Dream, which reached the number one position on the charts in the U.S. A first for the band.
