Admittedly, I did not watch this series when it was on the air. I am aware that I have some catching up to do. It is what introduced the fantastic Kristen Bell to us. She played the title role in this coming of age/Nancy Drew series.

A SoCal beach town is a tough place to be a teenager in unless you are one of the rich, cool kids. Middle class Veronica Mars (played by Kristen Bell) was one then after the murder of her best friend Lilly Kane (played by Amanda Seyfried) she finds herself on the outside after her father, the town sheriff Keith Mars (played by Enrico Colantoni) accuses the deceased’s father, tech millionaire Jake Kane (played by Kyle Secor), of the murder. When Jake is found innocent, Keith loses his job, his wife (played by Corinne Bohrer) leaves him and his daughter Veronica becomes public enemy number one at Neptune High.

Not willing to lay down, Veronica continues to investigate Lilly’s murder convinced that the man in jail for it is not responsible while trying to keep her head down at school and helping her father out at his private investigator firm. Any case – big or small – that comes to her is investigated.

This is not your typical crime or teen series. The writing is good with plenty of humour and witty banter. Bell is excellent as Veronica with just the right amount of tough ass mixed with vulnerable teen. The end of season one will leave you sufficiently intrigued that you will want to continue watching.

Keep your eyes peeled for the number of cameo appearances by the likes of Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Chastain, Paris Hilton, Paula Marshall, Melissa Leo, Jane Lynch, Lisa Rinna, Harry Hamlin, and Aaron Paul that occur this season.
