March 1992 Montrealer Sass Jordan released an album that shot her to the tops of the charts. Racine peaked at number two on the Billboard Album Chart and contained the hits “I Want to Believe”, “Goin’ Back Again”, “Make You a Believer, and “You Don’t Have to Remind Me”. It was a glorious start to a career that has spanned decades.
Her career started back in the 80s with her working primarily as a back up singer for other acts such as The Box. In 1988 she released her debut album, Tell Somebody, which contained the hit single “Tell Somebody” along with “Double Trouble” and “Stranger Than Paradise”. Racine came next and so did massive success.
After releasing a three more albums, Rats in 1994, Present in 1997 and Hot Gossip in 2000, Sass branched out. She played the lead in an off Broadway production about singer Janis Joplin, Love, Janis, in 2001 and was one of the judges on Canadian Idol in 2003, sticking with it throughout its entire run.
Possessing a rather raspy, bluesy voice, Sass has listed Judas Priest, David Bowie, Tears for Fears, and Ozzy Osbourne as her primary influences.
