Bishat is a rising Swedish artist, songwriter and producer with roots in Ethiopia and Eritrea. She writes and performs dark soulful pop with influences from contemporary R&B. Compared to the likes of Lykke Li and IAMDDB, Bishat’s sound is familiar yet all her own.

Bishat got her first taste of making music at the tender age of 13 when she wrote her first song with José González.

Her new track ‘Unholy Romance’ was written in collaboration with the Platinum-certified artist and producer Damian Ardestani better known as XOV. He has previously worked with Lorde on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Bishat said about working with XOV (Damian Ardestani):

“Damian (XOV) and I met working in Lesbos as volunteers for I AM U (which he founded) during the refugee crisis and we became really good friends. I always loved his music and his drive so a collaboration felt natural.”

‘Unholy Romance’, taken from her forthcoming EP, is about a reckless infatuation that’s destructive and damaging. A relationship crashing in slow motion and the twisted and addictive rush it gives.

Bishat recalls: “When we came together on a cold rainy and bitter day on an Island outside of Stockholm I had to get on a car ferry to the studio where I was working and found myself standing in the freezing cold looking out over the dark water and knew this wasn’t a day for happy tunes…”
