LP is Simply Not Like Others

I went to see an Irish band in concert during the winter of 2014  and LP (her first name is Laura) opened for them. I knew nothing about her before that evening. Not a thing. In a live setting she impressed me with her Bob Dylan looks and intriguing voice. That voice. She has a range that few others can boast.  LP combines that great voice with some rather poignant/intimate lyrics and melodic arrangements. With a style all her own it is hard as a reviewer to categorize her sound. But that is a good thing, right?

Born in New York and now relocated to the west coast, more specifically Los Angeles, LP had earned plenty of buzz and word of mouth from people in the industry before she even recorded her debut album. The buzz comes courtesy of her talent in the form of a voice like not many you’ve heard before. To say that her instrument is powerful and unique is selling it short. She has a sound that is all hers, but if push came to shove I would say she is mix of Janis Joplin and Florence + the Machine. She also has very strong lyrics going for her as well.  The lady sure can write a tune. Even makes the ukulele (which she plays) cool. A very unique brand of music.

The general admission show is sold out.
