Even at the age of 70 Mexican-American musician Carlos Santana is still considered one of the best guitarists around. Since the late 60s with his unique version of rock/salsa fusion Carlos Santana has been a big name in the rock industry. He has cited such legendary musicians as Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Mike Bloomfield, and John Lee Hooker as his major influences.
The group Santana was formed in California in 1966. Fronted by guitarist Carlos Santana they burst onto the scene during Woodstock. Lineup changes have been common over the years with only Carlos remaining throughout. They have sold over 100 million albums and in 1998 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In the late 90s, after disappearing for a bit, Carlos Santana (solo artist) came to the forefront again. He began a trend of hooking up with some of the hottest names in music. Santana recorded singles with Nickleback’s Chad Kroeger (“Into the Night”), Michelle Branch (“The Game of Love”), Rob Thomas (“Smooth”), Shakira (“Illegal”), Jennifer Lopez (“This Boy’s Fire”), and Steven Tyler (“Just Feel Better”).
In a career that has seen him win 10 Grammy Awards, 3 Latin Grammy Awards and sold over 80 million albums Carlos Santana has been able to remain relevant no matter the musical climate.
