His stage name is Nelly, but he was born Cornell Haynes Jr. on November 2, 1974. After being discovered while working with his first group, St. Lunatics, Nelly was signed to Universal in 1999. His debut album, “Country Grammar”, was a huge hit. Reaching number one on the Billboard chart it is still his best-selling album.
The success continued with his next album, “Nellyville”, which contained the monster hits, “Hot in Herre” and “Dilemma”, the duet with Kelly Rowland. Though his subsequent albums have not sold as much or produced as many hits they still can be considered successes. Nelly has sold over 21 million albums in the U.S. alone.
A winner of Grammy Awards in 2003 and 2004, he has been force on the rap scene for over a decade. Like many rap artists Nelly has collaborated with an array of artists over the years like Justin Timberlake, Fergie, Akon, Ashanti, and T-Pain. Diversifying, Nelly also has tried his hand at acting with his small role in the Adam Sandler football film, “The Longest Yard” and has two clothing lines, Vokal and Apple Bottoms.
There is a dark cloud hanging over the rapper as he has been accused by several women of sexual assault. The criminal investigation of this has not stopped him from touring.
On this tour Nelly is supported on stage by DJ Yo-C.
