The perfect summer watch. Gavin & Stacey is light yet occasionally emotional. Six episodes plus a Christmas special. Short but sweet then it is all over. This was the last season for the series that brought audiences James Corden. The series was the brainchild of him and Ruth Jones, who plays Nessa. While the acting is rather ordinary for the most part what makes it great is the writing. It fluctuates between cheeky, witty and poignant perfectly. The dialogue is perfect. Watching it is almost like hanging out with a bunch of old friends.
Besides the romance between Gavin (played by Mathew Horne) from Essex and Stacey (played by Joanna Page) what the series focuses on is the friendships between Gavin and Smithy (played by James Corden) and Stacey and Nessa. This season they have to deal with changes in their relationships with Gavin and Stacey moving to Wales and the friends being away from each other for the first time. Plus Smithy and Nessa are trying to figure out not being together but having a child.
