BC-based alternative groove outfit Sky Parallel debut the first single “Body Between” from their upcoming self-titled EP out July 20, 2018 via TuneCore. Formed in 2015 by songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Sarah Noni and violinist Sara Fitzpatrick, Sky Parallel’s genre-bending pop-folk sound is brimming with electronic flavours and moving melodies that feature experimental violin and rich vocal textures.
Noni is no stranger to the music scene having toured extensively worldwide, creating music in multiple genres, and releasing 3 solo records with Dog My Cat Records. She also received a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2008 for ‘Best Solo Artist’. Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick has perfected a virtuosic level of playing and has performed violin for numerous Canadian acts, most recently the electro fusion group Delhi 2 Dublin. A beautiful synthesis of Noni’s and Fitzpatrick’s diverse musical backgrounds, the duo provides a sonic experience that has proven to be a crowd favourite since hitting Canadian stages in the summer of 2016. Drawing inspiration from various genres of music including indie electro-folk, singer-songwriter and alternative orchestral sounds, their songs are tasty, rhythmical gems that are both boundary pushing and ear-candy.
Propelled by a deep love of creating together, the duo spent the first half of 2016 writing and composing their debut EP with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. The result is a collection of music that holds a special place in both Sarah and Sara’s hearts, as it was written and recorded amidst 2 pregnancies and 3 newborns between them. Their behind the scenes partner-in-crime is beloved Vancouver producer Elisa Pangsaeng, who helped them focus and hone in on signature sounds utilizing electro-acoustic percussion and experimental sonic textures, as well as the voice and violin to create synth instruments alongside more classical elements of orchestra and song. Sky Parallel will be hitting select festival stages performing with a full band that features Sarah Noni (vocals, guitar, keys), Sara Fitzpatrick (violin), John Glasparich (drums), and Arista Hawkes (bass). More information and show dates will be announced when available.
