Canada vs. U.S.A. – McGill v Duke Basketball Showdown

Preseason university basketball in Montreal is going to feature a high level attraction. Duke is coming in to town (well, Laval) to play McGill. There are precious few bigger university basketball schools in the United States than Duke. They are the winners of five national championships. They are so big that the game is being broadcast in the States on ESPN.

The game against McGill is one of three against Canadian university teams – others are Ryerson and Toronto. McGill will be facing five different American adversaries in Duke, Mississippi, Cincinnati, South Dakota State, and Vermont.

Last season for McGill was a strong one that saw them post a 26-12 record while Duke was their typical quality at 29-8. The interesting twist is that most of Duke’s team is new due to the players being drafted into the NBA. For fans of Canadian basketball and basketball in general on the Duke roster is Canadian R.J. Barrett, someone who is the projected number one pick in the next NBA draft. Bottom line is that this should prove to be an interesting contest.
