We’re born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we’re not alone. – Orson Welles
“Frances” is a walker. Walk your dog to it. Take a walk with your mom or a friendly neighbor as you listen. It’d be great if people were kind to one other. The climate right now is so divisive…but we’re all the same. If one of Basic Gardening’s songs can bring two people together or provide a hazy moment of joy, then I’m a happy camper.
As far as creating music is concerned, I’m a lifer. After releasing over half-a-dozen LP’s and touring the world with Fine Points and Sleepy Sun, my debut solo EP, Basic Gardening, drops on November 16th.
My friend, Bobby Renz, and I hunkered down at Different Fur Studios in the Mission district of San Francisco to make these recordings. Working on the jams with Bobby was really fun. This type of studio merrymaking occurs when everyone is working hard and not taking themselves too seriously. Sprinkle in some coffee, tacos, and a couple talented musician cronies on slide guitar/ooohs n’ ahhhs – you’ve got yourself a tune!
