Like many others my age I have very fond memories of going out in the 70’s and 80’s just to have fun, party and dance the night away. The bar scene these days consists mostly of overpriced pretentious dance clubs where you have to be a VIP and spend $1000 to get a decent table. The average age of the patrons is 23 and often people get drunk and obnoxious. The seemingly only other option is a place that is possibly a dive bar that is less than clean with very loud music, although once in a while a good live band will be playing and it is less expensive, however the customers often tend to drink too much and are more often than not just looking for a fight.
I find myself often just going to dinner or to a show but seldom to bars/clubs like in my younger days. I have some good news for those of you in the same boat as me and who find themselves in South Florida either for the winter season, the week or permanently. That is The 80’s Disco Club Bar and Restaurant. I met with Jorge Ramos one of the owners of this fantastic establishment. He told me that he found himself without a place to go out to for a drink and a dance, so came up with the idea of creating an 80’s themed disco where everyone can forget all of the problems that we all experience in our modern life and at least for a few hours travel back in time to when we were younger and more care free in a fantastic version of our favorite disco, lit up dance floor and all.
The last time I went there Jorge was a true gentleman and gave me and my friends special attention on top of that he personally made sure that we were all having a great time for my friend’s birthday. Everything about the place says 80’s and the owners spent a lot of time and money making sure that they left no stone unturned when it came to 80’s nostalgia with meticulous details throughout.
Unfortunately we came too late to try anything on the menu which looked fantastic featuring many local specialties. However, in my next article I will make sure that I let you know what to order and what dishes I got to taste. I am really looking forward to that delectable experience.
The people in the club were all ages but I would have to say the majority were in their 40’s and 50’s. The ones that I met were friendly, easy going and just wanted to have the time of their lives dancing the night away. When you go to this club and are transported back to the 80’s you are having so much fun that you lose track of time and the night seems to be over at lightening speed. Everyone who was there that evening agreed that they wished it would never end and there was never a dull moment.
The prices were reasonable and won’t empty your wallet. The bar staff were friendly. Nobody was there for any reason but to have a good time.
