Forever and Ever with Royal Wood

Growing up in a house that was always full of music, Royal Wood (whose real name is John Royal Wood Nicholson) was inevitably going do something in the industry. That something turned out to be earning his living as a musician. He began at the age of four playing the piano and by the time he finished high school Royal could play a number of instruments. While attending McGill University as a business major, he began playing in jazz clubs around town and writing his own songs.

2002 saw the release of his first EP, The Milkwood EP, and right off the bat comparisons were made between his music and that of Tom Waits and Jeff Buckley. He himself has said he is inspired by acts like The Beach Boys and the Beatles. His career has continued on with Juno nominations, big selling albums in Canada and this year alone has released his eighth full length album and an EP.

Royal Wood has worked or played live with such acts as Emm Gryner, Sarah Slean (whom he was formerly married to), Hawksley Workman, Serena Ryder, and David Gray. The tour he is on now involves a project of recording it and releasing a live album – Royal Wood – Live at Massey Hall – along with a companion documentary.

The general admission show is 18+.
