Another show about nothing! And what is the connection with Seinfeld? Well, the star of this show, Larry David, was the writer, co-creator and executive producer on that show. He most certainly has a niche. It is a fun one, however, so that makes up for the repetitive feeling you might initially claim.
Curb Your Enthusiasm was Larry David’s follow up to Seinfeld and was also highly successful. Probably because we soon identify that Larry David is a composite of all the Seinfeld characters. Yes, mostly George Costanza but there is also some Jerry, Elaine and Kramer there. All quite difficult in their own way. That makes Larry a walking and talking (too much) human disaster area. He cannot seem to get along with anyone including his lovely wife Cheryl (played by Cheryl Hines). For us the viewer the result is a man who is easy to laugh at. A genius comedic take on everyday life.
Larry David seemingly is a man with everything. A successful career as a writer in television and movies. A wive who loves him. A nice house. Friends. And yet is acts like a man unfulfilled. Or at least one in which plenty bugs him. That plus the fact that he always seems to do or say the wrong thing leads to loads of awkward situations or downright confrontations. They could be with friends or complete strangers. Ready yourself for it.
Eyes peeled for appearances by Mary Steenburgen, Ted Danson, Caroline Rhea, Bob Odenkirk, Kathy Griffin, Nia Vardalos, Richard Lewis and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
