In perfect time for Valentine’s Day and the season of love, Michael Buble’s has released his eighth and first album in two years entitled Love. Romance is dialed up here and is the perfect album to put on during a night of romance. Total love vibe going on. Love features 11 tracks of which a large percentage are so well known they are part of most music fans’ DNA. Songs like “I Only Have Eyes for You”, “La Vie en Rose” and “My Funny Valentine”. After dealing with a family crisis (the illness of one of his children), Canadian crooner Buble has stepped back into the spotlight and announced that he still has plenty left to give musically. The idea for him behind this album was to honour songs he has always loved. As in the past, he worked with renowned fellow Canadian and producer David Foster on Love as well as long-time collaborator Jochem van der Saag. Musically there is nary a misstep to be found. The orchestral arrangements are lush and support Buble’s vocals wonderfully. The arrangements have been tinkered with in an effort to distinguish them from the million other times some of these songs have been sung. Things like the drums on “My Funny Valentine” will grab your attention. Tone-wise, nothing really earthshattering here, if you are familiar with the artist, but on a personal level there seems to be a new man here. Not as slick or full of himself and that comes off well in his vocals. Vocally he is sounding a lot like he did when he first started out.
