Indie Montreal‘s IMTL Press is excited to announce the release of classical pianist Dawn Davi‘s new single and official music video for “LUVU“. The track is from her upcoming album, Sweet Apple, to be released on March 15, 2019. Davi will play album launch shows in Toronto on March 16 and in Montreal on March 26 at Casa Del Popolo.
Dawn Davi is an Iranian-Canadian pianist and composer living in Toronto. “LUVU”, Davi’s second single off her forthcoming album follows her first single In the Beginning, released last fall.
LUVU refers to an imaginary dance between ego and alter ego that creates and recreates oneness among longing and belonging, feelings of insecurity and fear of intimacy. The piece slowly builds nostalgia for the era where they both came to life and as they dance, they start to melt yet again into one another.

Entitled Sweet Apple, Davi composed the opus following her battle with cancer. Her illness clarified the meaning of life and that mysterious thing called “Time”. This forms a recurring theme on the album, which explores the relativity and mystery of time in multiple contexts. Having immigrated to Canada from Iran in 2009, Davi pays tribute to her adopted country, which re-sculpted her identity, using the album’s title as a symbol, the apple being the country’s most cultivated fruit. Sweet Apple follows the neo-classical movement, offering rich instrumentation that adds trumpet, a string quartet and synthesizer around the piano.
Dawn Davi is an Iranian-Canadian pianist, composer, visual artist, and educator based in Toronto. She received formal training and education at York University where she was awarded the continuing student scholarship, Berklee College of Music’s online extension school, and the Offcentre DJ school of Toronto. Her music has been featured in City of Toronto’s 311 Winter 2017 playlist, the respectable “I Care if You Listen” blog and Huffington Post Quebec for her new single release “In the Beginning”, as well as on multiple public and syndicated radio stations in the US in 2018, including KPFA-FM’s “Discreet Music”. Previously, Dawn has performed at York University’s World Music festival, Burdock PianoFest, and organized and performed at events supporting local non-for-profit organizations. She enjoys collaborating with musicians from different musical cultures, fusing and creating new sounds, and has also worked with several visual artists exploring the connection between the two media. Her world-view mixed with her minimalist expression style is the creative force which is driving her to develop musical compositions that intuitively draw the listener in with their simplicity and compelling honesty. Dawn shares a personal and life-changing story in her second album, Sweet Apple, set for release March 2019.
Davi will play launch concerts in Toronto on March 16 at Lawrence Park Community Church starting at 7 pm with special guest Meden Glass and in Montreal on March 26 at 7:30 pm at Casa Del Popolo with Tamar Ilana supporting.
