Sydney-based singer-songwriter Hein Cooper (pronounced “Hane”) releases his majestic sophomore album Underneath It All today via Indica Records. The emerging artist defies genre, with this new LP combining electronic, RnB, indie-folk, and pop sensibilities to create a sound that is completely his own. “I think we’ve had enough time to see what styles are melding well together and what aren’t,” Cooper says of cross-genre work, moving forward. “There’s this new confidence to the ‘anything goes’ attitude of the last ten years.” Stream and Purchase Underneath It All HERE.

The Australian troubadour is embarking on tour from June to August in Quebec, throughout Europe, and across Australia. Full routing below includes two special dates at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Cooper spent most of 2016 and 2017 on stage, performing over 140 shows during this period in Europe, the US and the UK, growing his live presence both as a headliner and main support for the likes of James Bay, Lukas Graham, Peter, Bjorn and John, and Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros.

Hein Cooper’s honeyed vocals soar effortlessly over crisp electronic beats and intricate guitar strums that sound akin to the likes of Chet Faker or Yoke Lore’s unique ability to make ambient alt-pop with an emotive soul. “I think a pop song can be incredibly poetic and still clear, and also be an exciting mix of genres. That’s what I’ve aimed for throughout my new music.” Each track seamlessly weaves together stunning melodies with powerful lyricism, taking the listener on an undeniably immersive journey.

“Hear My Voice” co-produced by Will Hicks (Ed Sheeran, James Hersey) and the singer himself in the UK has a fresh sound that Atwood Magazine acclaimed “solidifies the Australian artist as an indie pop supernova.” The threads of new music began to form during his time living in Cornwall, where British coastal life provided an outlet for him to reflect and muse on the wealth of new experiences touring had brought him. Cooper showcases his signature folk and indie pop styles on “Over Again” and “Fear of Missing Out” for which he partnered with producer Carey Willetts (Dermot Kenedy, Tom Speight, Leo Stannard) and shares that his new material is “the music I’ve always wanted to create. Being involved on the production side of my music [too] is allowing me to really capture the bigger picture.”

2015’s debut album The Art of Escape (Indica Records) was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, Acoustic Hits, Triple J Hitlist and Folk & Friends playlists, as well as on Apple Music’s What’s New, Mellow Springtime and Best of the Week playlists. The LP was recorded in Montreal with producer Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire, The National, Hey Rosetta) and highlights the young artist’s ability to beautifully mesh acoustic with electronic, praised by Clash Music (US) for “a wonderfully off-kilter piece of pop music, all crisp electronic beats and finely honed colour.” With Underneath It All, Hein Cooper hopes to captivate listeners further with his calming blend of dreamy-electronica. More information will be released as it becomes available.
