La Société de développement commercial Destination Centre-Ville, in collaboration with Îlot 84, is pleased to announce the creation of Petit Montréal. The ephemeral space will take root in the heart of downtown Montreal, from June 20 to August 31, 2019, at Phillips Square.
Le Petit Montréal will offer tourists, residents and workers in the downtown area, a green oasis of relaxation and calm in the heart of the construction site of Ste. Catherine Street. Large communal tables, light garlands, designer furniture, shaded relaxation areas, that’s what anyone who enters will find there whether it be with the goal to unwind or to dine in the sun. Each Thursday of the summer there will be gourmet appetizers on the menu: jazz or classical music, natural wines and food from the neighboring restaurants. Finally, a program will be presented in collaboration with the special events that already animate the space and especially with the presence of XP_MTL in one of the site’s spaces (relaxation zone, jazz aperitif, games, etc.).
RESPOND TO THE CHALLENGES OF WORK AND VALUE THE HERITAGE OF SQUARE PHILLIPS
Through its convivial and invigorating character, Le Petit Montréal intends to transform the Sainte-Catherine Street site into a refreshing 100% Montreal experience. With this in mind, SDC Destination Center-Ville turned to Îlot 84, now known for the popular success of the outdoor co-working space: Aire commune Mile End. The Mile End site has generated nearly $ 1 million in economic spin-offs in neighboring businesses.
“Sainte-Catherine Street is undergoing a transformation and it is essential that it retain its charm and appeal despite the site’s presence. Le Petit Montréal will attract visitors and those who work in the area thus optimizing traffic in shops and restaurants nearby. This is a great first for the downtown area, our desire is to each summer to create a meeting spot that can be extended along the rue Sainte Catherine as the site progresses. “
Émile Roux, Executive Director of Destination Centre-Ville
“Offering here a very different concept and many uses, Îlot 84 remains convinced that a pleasant public space which puts forward local offerings will generate significant economic spinoffs. “
Marie-Pier Tessier of L’Étoile, Executive Director of Îlot 84
