They talked about the Christopher Nolan Batman films as if they rescued the series while that might be more right than wrong it has to be remembered that the first four films did gross over $1 billion dollars worldwide. No small potatoes that. Bottom line it is one of the most successful film franchises ever.
It all began around 30 years ago and continues for Batman and his fans.
This was the top-grossing film of 1989 and launched the comic book hero on to the big screen. Gotham City is depicted as a dark and sinister place to live. It needs a hero and Batman (played by Michael Keaton) is that hero. The Caped Crusader has to do battle against a deadly foe in The Joker (played by Jack Nicholson. Vicki Vale (played by Kim Basinger) is a journalist that both men are attracted to. The two powerful men find themselves waging a war on the streets of Gotham City.
The master of dark, Tim Burton, breathed some much needed life into the darkest of the Marvel superheroes. Many interesting and strong things about the relaunching of Batman. You get an interesting choice of Michael Keaton as Batman. Jack Nicholson’s insane take on the scene chewing part of the Joker. Kim Basinger as the femme fatale. Plus a cool score by Danny Elfman and some songs by Prince.
