| Having blown us away with debut single ‘Always On My Mind’ as Hanna & Andrea, receiving nods from the prolific likes of SPIN, The 405, Pop Justice, and more, Hanna Larsson and Andrea Kallstr m continue their stellar work under the moniker lennixx. Their untapped maturity shone through last year’s Sunny-days-in-Stockholm tones of debut mixtape ‘hapap’, receiving acclaim from The Line of Best Fit, DUMMY Mag and Metal Magazine and, more recently, their last single released back in March ‘Bad Bird’ found support from Complex and PURPLE MELON. lennixx now come to release their debut EP – ‘Split By’ headed up with the title single. The two-piece progressively peg an early-noughties R&B slink with their own crystalline contemporary margins of sound, making for something familiar and nostalgic, yet utterly fresh. Two years since their debut, Hanna and Andrea; 19 and 21, have by no means reached their peak, but have presented to us an innovative diptych of Stockholm’s urban aesthetic to a tired Scandi-pop scene. New track ‘Split By’ blurs soulful R&B and pop sensibilities with its beguiling groove and the duo’s mellifluous harmonies. Well balanced production and the subtlety of vintage synths make for the ideal accompaniment to Larsson and Kallstr m’s warm-honeyed tones. The track spares us a conventional build, instead snaking through a narrative of romantic disappointment. Here’s what lennixx had to say about the track: “’Split By’ is about when you’re in a certain situation with a person you can’t seem to get out of. Like, when you are with this person you change and become someone you’re not, because you go back and forth for so long not knowing exactly what you are.
