River
Whyless have shared an evocative cover of Bob Dylan’s classic “It Ain’t Me Babe.” The
band’s interlocking harmonies serve Dylan’s devastating lyrics well,
blending the tenderness and grit this beloved song contains. The band kick
off an East Coast tour tonight, including a key play in Brooklyn on
September 22 at Rough Trade with The Dead Tongues. The full list of dates
is below.

River
Whyless’ interpretation came to be in bits and pieces of in-between time on
tour. The band elaborate, “A
verse would materialize in the green room before a show, the chorus murmured
idly as we loaded the van. Our finished rendition seemed to happen organically,
almost unintentionally, which is how we wish all songs could enter our
repertoire — as a deceptively effortless aspect of our ongoing
self-discovery.”
Today’s release is a precious peek into
River Whyless’ quieter moments, an artifact of candid times behind the scenes
of their evolving music career. “In
all stages, and even before we started singing it, the song maintained its
relation to us; beautiful, brilliant, sad. It has always served as a kind of
consolation in our struggle to be the lovers, children and companions we
aspire, but sometimes fail to be.”
