CFL All-Star and Hometown Hero Marc-Olivier Brouillette (MVF 2019 Spokesperson) Broke Down Vegan Stereotypes, alongside John Lewis (a.k.a the Bad Ass Vegan) & Former Habs Enforcer Georges Laraque!
The 2019 Montreal Vegan Festival (MVF)
wrapped up a successful 6th edition this past weekend, bringing Montreal’s
summer season to a foodie festival finale at the Palais des Congr s de
Montr al.
This year’s professional sports theme brought the fest to a close on Sunday,
September 22, with a hugely successful panel discussion entitled All Gain, No Pain, where
world-class vegan athletes demystified the myths of a plant-based
lifestyle to an eager crowd.
“What an incredible opportunity it’s
been to represent the Montreal Vegan Festival as their 2019 Spokesperson and
further break the stereotypes around veganism. It was inspiring to see so many
people from all walks of life joining us this weekend to sample delicious food,
attend talks and workshops, and learn more about the plant-based lifestyle from
global experts at the province’s premier vegan event.” – Marc-Olivier Brouillette, MVF 2019 Spokesperson
The MVF’s 6th edition treated the public to a full weekend of free bilingual
activities that catered to all tastes. Visitors tasted, perused, and purchased
a variety of vegan goods on display that ranged from food items and clothing,
to health & beauty products, household items and so much more, from over
160 local and national exhibitors.
“Once again, the Festival was a great
success, with many positive comments from visitors about how much they
appreciated the workshops, demos, and conferences, as well as the quality of
the products offered by the vendors. We were thrilled to find out they also
enjoyed the membership perks that the Friends of the Montreal Vegan Festival
provided them for a first time this year. Of course, none of this would have
been possible without the hard work and dedication of the volunteers; a special
thanks to all of them. We’re already looking forward to the 7th edition!”
– Stephanie Plamondon,
Festival Director
Visitors were equally entertained through an incredible program of lectures,
thematic workshops, and culinary demonstrations, and enjoyed the return of the
hugely popular library section, with over 200 titles and book signings by some
of the hottest celebrity vegan chefs/authors.
Among presentations that wowed this year’s crowds were the decadent brunch demo
by Toronto chef and world-famous author Doug McNish, delectable butter tofu tips by
Quebec’s star of the kitchen & MVF 2018 spokesperson The Buddhist Chef, Jean-Philippe Cyr, a justice-hungry
Q&A with the Bad Ass Vegan, John Lewis, Ontario
best-selling author Dr. Jonathan Balcombe’s renowned What A Fish Knows presentation, and
mouth-watering magic tofu recipes by top-ranking Quebecoise food writer Caroline “Loounie” Huard.
And, of course, we can’t forget the delicious food enjoyed by the inquisitive,
hungry visitors! This year’s principal sponsor GUSTA led the way, with crowds queuing
up all weekend-long for their brand-new vegan tourti res, a new gamut of
sizzling sausages, and their mouthwatering grilled cheeses!
