SHORT FILMS AWARD CEREMONY, Q&A WITH THE STARS OF L’ACROBATE

AT
6:00PM : A special screening of Jeff Nichols’ TAKE SHELTER as part of the
Festival’s environment theme

The
Festival is thrilled to present Jeff NicholsTAKE SHELTER at
6:00PM in the Cinéplex Odéon Quartier Latin (Salle 17). The 2011 thriller is
screened as part of the Festival’s environment programming, one of three major
cinematic themes offered this year. It stars Michael Shannon as Chris, a
family man plagued by increasingly frequent apocalyptic visions. As his mental
state deteriorates — to the terror of his family — Chris’ only comfort is the
underground bunker in his yard. The film will be followed by a discussion on
eco-anxiety and climate change with eco-sociologist Laure Waridel.

6:15PM : Screening of L’ACROBATE followed by a Q&A with lead actors Yury
Paulau and Sébastien Ricard

Quebec
filmmaker Rodrigue Jean returns with L’ACROBATE, a tense,
provocative drama following two strangers who meet by chance during a grueling
snowstorm. Their attraction is immediate, but its intensity will force them to
test the boundaries of anonymous relationships. The result is a story that’s
steamy and intimate, mysterious and manipulative… and not to be missed. Join
lead actors Yury Paulau and Sébastien Ricard at 6:15PM in the
Cinéma du Musée for a Q&A after the film screening.

► AT 7:15PM : Competition internationale entry MICKEY AND THE BEAR

MICKEY
AND THE BEAR
follows a teenage girl as she struggles to navigate a volatile
relationship with her PTSD-stricken, Iraq war vet father. The increasing
toxicity of a once-loving family will change both of their lives. The debut
feature from American filmmaker Annabelle Attanasio, this film is an
affecting illustration of a young woman who yearns to be free from her
desperate circumstances. Join Attanasio in the Cinéplex Odéon Quartier Latin
(Salle 10) for a Q&A after the film screening.

8:00PM : Awards ceremony in celebration of the FNC’s short features

Join us
for a special awards ceremony in the Agora Hydro-Québec du Coeur des sciences
at UQAM honouring the 2019 short film programming. The evening will continue
with a festive celebration that provides a great opportunity to meet local and
international filmmakers. Don’t miss out!

In
addition to those mentioned above, a number of guests will be present on
Tuesday, October 15th. At 5:00PM in the Cinémathèque québécoise, Canadian
actress Carole Laure will hold a Q&A following a screening of À MORT
L’ARBITRE
. At 7:00PM in the same location, there will be a screening of NUIT
#1
followed by a Q&A with actress Catherine de Léan. Then, at 6:45PM in
Cinéma du Parc (Salle 1), actress Sierra McCormick will be present for a
screening of THE VAST OF NIGHT,followed by a Q&A. At 8:50PM,
the cast and crew of CRANKS will also hold a Q&A after a screening
of their film in the same venue. At 8:55PM in the Cinéplex Odéon Quartier Latin
(Salle 14), a screening of CANADA will be followed by a Q&A with the
film’s cast and crew. Finally, at 9:45PM, filmmaker Fabrice Du Welz will be
present for a Q&A following a screening of his film ADORATION in the
Cinéplex Odéon Quartier Latin (Salle 17).

About the 48th edition of the
Festival du Nouveau Cinéma

The 48th edition of the
Festival du Nouveau Cinéma will take place from the 9th to the 20th
of October in the following locations: the Cinéma Moderne, the Cinéma du Musée,
the Cinéma du Parc, the Imperial Cinema (official point of sale for the
Festival), the Cinémathèque québécoise, the Cineplex Odéon du Quartier Latin,
La Grand-Place du complexe Desjardins, l’Inis, the Théâtre Maisonneuve of Place
des Arts, as well as the Headquarters, located at the Agora Hydro-Québec in the
Coeur des sciences of UQÀM and in the Chaufferie. Ticket sales are now open on
the Festival website www.nouveaucinema.ca.
