SOFI TUKKER’s wildly
imaginative, inclusive, and global perspective on electronic music has earned
them a rabid fanbase across the world and turned them into an international
festival staple. The group never sacrifices the fun nor the activism and have
used their North American tours to raise money for reproductive rights, LGBTQ+
rights, and mental health organizations and have championed gun control
protests during television appearances. This commitment to equality and
fostering community while recombining the pillars of dance music into exciting
new shapes has established them as a singular act.
The group released their anticipated Dancing On The People EP in September. The EP
is the follow up to their GRAMMY
nominated debut album Treehouse. Their latest single
from the EP, “Purple Hat,” is currently #1 on the US
iTunes Dance Singles Chart and soundtracks the new Samsung Galaxy commercials. The song
is a celebration of losing your inhibitions and was inspired by the first
Animal Talk party they threw in San Francisco where the audience abandoned
themselves to the joy en masse. “Purple Hat” has also reached #13 on
Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Digital Sales, and is #4 on Sirius XM’s Alt Nation
Alt-18 countdown. Dancing On The People’s anthemic first single “Fantasy”
revealed the group’s evolution since breaking through, touring the world, and
experiencing many of scenes and cultures that inspired them firsthand. SOFI
TUKKER made their US daytime television debut performing it on Good Morning America and followed
“Fantasy” up with a Bomba Estereo collaboration, “Playa Grande.” The longtime
friends created a rallying cry that urges you to surrender to your bliss with
lyrics in English, Spanish, and Portuguese that exemplifies their collaborative
and inclusive spirit. The group’s track “Swing,” with it’s
relentless beat and majestic string arrangement, is a long time audience
favorite at SOFI TUKKER shows recorded for the EP and is currently featured on HBO’s 2020 Coming Soon promos. Listen to the EP.
Earlier this year, “Best Friend” was certified gold in the US and was a hit on pop, alternative, and dance radio. It has gone platinum in Canada and Russia and gold in Belgium, Hungary, and Turkey as well. The infectious track features The Knocks, NERVO, and Alisa Ueno and soundtracked the iPhone X ads internationally. The group performed “Best Friend” on their US TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
SOFI TUKKER exploded into our consciousness with one of the decade’s most boldly original tracks, “Drinkee,” which earned them the honor of being GRAMMY nominated for their debut single. The song is a juggernaut with an instantly memorable guitar hook, jubilant rhythm, and lyrics in Brazilian Portuguese adapted from contemporary Brazilian poet Chacal. “Drinkee” achieved platinum sales in Turkey and Australia and went gold in Brazil and Italy. Years after its release, the worldwide classic continues to be a mainstay on television, video games, and films. SOFI TUKKER have since charted on every continent other than Antarctica.
