For its very first concert of the year, on Sunday
February 16 at 3:00 PM
in Westmount’s historic Victoria Hall,
l’Orchestre classique de Montréal
offers music lovers a journey through time,
back to the elegance and glory of 19th-century Vienna. Directed by
maestro Boris Brott, internationally celebrated soprano Aline Kutan will
perform some of the repertoire’s most notorious operettas, bringing to life
pieces from legendary composers such as Strauss Jr, Lehár and Mozart.

For over 20 years, Armenian-Canadian soprano Aline Kutan has pursued a brilliant career on the world’s greatest stages, performing both opera and recital. She won the prestigious Metropolitan Opera Competition in 1995, and her acclaimed interpretations of Lakmé (Lakmé) and the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) have gained her access to some of the most illustrious theaters in the world, amongst which l’Opéra de Paris, Teatro Colon, Canadian Opera Company, La Scala di Milan, l’Opéra de Montréal, and many others. She also takes great joy in training young musicians, as shown by her strong commitment as a teacher at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music.

This
concert is presented in collaboration with the City of Westmount, the Austrian
honorary consulate general, the Austrian Society of Montreal and Concerts
Noncerto.

Young
Stars series

Starting at 2:15 PM in Victoria Hall, members of the audience will have the chance to discover young flute player Naama Neuman’s immense talent, in a performance alongside pianist Julie Choi. OCM’s Young Stars series is presented as 20-minute pre-show performances featuring talented up-and-coming artists before each concert of the season. Naama Neuman, who was awarded the first prize for the 2018 edition of the Schulich School of Music’s soloist competition, will interpret the second movement of Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G as well as Borne’s Fantaisie brillante sur Carmen.
