SOFI TUKKER‘s
musical ethos of creating epic and nostalgic moments that get bodies moving has
earned them 575 million streams to date and dedicated fans around the
world. What started with their debut single “Drinkee” has
most recently garnered the attention of Warner Brothers, who tapped the band’s
unreleased song “Feeling
Good” for the soundtrack to the upcoming film Birds of Prey. In addition, “Good Time Girl” (feat.
Charlie Barker) from their debut 2018 album Treehouse is the official
theme song of HBO’s
The New Pope starring Jude Law & John
Malkovich, and has been lighting up Shazam & iTunes charts across
Europe and the globe.
Today the pair share the official music video for “Ringless.” Shot
in New York City and directed by Taylor Tupy,
the surrealist clip stars model and artist Amanda
Googe and features sculptural fashion from
designer Alisha Phichitsingh. Driven
by melancholy guitar chords and a relentless beat, “Ringless” finds
Sophie musing on a relationship doomed from the start, her internal
dialogue and struggle filling the lyrics – “I’m more than the worst
thing I’ve ever done, I’m less than the best thing I’ve ever won.” In the
video that struggle is personified with Amanda as she searches the night sky,
reaching for the moon.
“The ‘Ringless’ video is an exciting departure for us,”
SOFI TUKKER says of the clip. “Normally, we are in our videos but for
‘Ringless’ we found the perfect artists to depict the song. A close
collaborator and the designer of our EP artwork, Amanda Googe, had a plan to
make a fashion film with a filmmaker named Taylor Tupy. We were all listening
to the song before it was released and got inspired to merge the two different
projects into one. Taylor Tupy has a dreamy aesthetic that we thought
would be perfect for the track. It’s been such an exciting experience watching
these other artists be inspired by our music and create within the world the
song provides. Amanda is the perfect main character in the dreamy, otherworldly
experience through ‘Ringless.’ We are in love with what they created.”
Director Taylor Tupy adds: “We’re incredibly grateful SOFI TUKKER gave us so much creative freedom for the Ringless video from day 1. We wanted to make a journey about a girls reflection into her own psyche, and what she’d find in herself along the way.”
The release of SOFI TUKKER’s “Ringless” music video comes ahead of the pair’s 14-date North American tour which kicks off March 7th at M3F Festival and a headline billing at Ultra Miami Live Stage on March 21st & 22nd. SOFI TUKER’s Fall 2019 R.I.P. Shame Tour saw the duo raise together with concert attendees over $16K for NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. SOFI TUKKER are continuing their activism for the April 2020 North American tour in support of NRDC, the National Resources Defense Council, in partnership with Plus1 to demand a sustainable future for everyone and to protect clean air, water and the planet.
