Once again, Ramos delivers a cinematic visual befitting of his widescreen musical vision. This time around, he co-stars alongside actress, and YouTube superstar Liza Koshy. Directed by Andy Madeleine (Haim) and choreographed by Dana Wilson (Justin Timberlake, Kesha, “In The Heights”), the video follows dancers Koshy and Ramos through the ups and downs of a torrid, yet low-key romance. She tries to keep it under the radar, which inspires Ramos to question, “Tell me how this ain’t no relationship?” before pleading, “I just want to be the one you end up with.”
“This song is for anybody who’s ever been in a relationship with someone that the other person didn’t want to make official. For all my people in the grey area,” Ramos told Teen Vogue, who first premiered the video earlier today. Fans also had the chance to chat with Ramos about the video during a live chat via his official YouTube Watch Page this morning.
Another delicate dance between hip-hop, pop, and poetry, “Relationship” flips the script on stereotypical relationship roles as Ramos takes a position of vulnerability and genuinely opens up. Like only he can, he presents a fresh and very welcome vision of what modern masculinity could be.
