Louis-Philippe Marsolais & Louis-Pierre Bergeron

Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Bourgie Hall at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Louis-Philippe Marsolais and Louis-Pierre Bergeron invite us on a journey leading from the Prussian forest to the Rocky Mountains. The two French horn players from Montreal reveal the capacities of their instrument, by turns majestic and poetic, in works by Rameau, Beethoven, Macpherson and Ries that demand exceptional virtuosity.

Louis-Philippe Marsolais has been making a name for himself for 15 years as one of the most active horn players in the country, in solo performance, in chamber music and with orchestra. His career was launched in 2005, when he was awarded three prizes at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich. Since 2009 he has been principal French horn with the Orchestre Métropolitain under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In addition to performing with the ensemble Pantaèdre, he is assistant professor on the Faculty of Music at Université de Montréal, and teaches at Domaine Forget.

Louis-Pierre Bergeron is 4th horn with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. Previously he was 3rd horn with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, 2nd horn at the Orchestre Métropolitain, and principal horn with the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières. He is also the founder of the group Montreal Horn Stars, a brass quintet in which he also serves as principal arranger. The ensemble collaborates with artists like Patrick Watson, Bernard Adamus, Louis-Jean Cormier and Klô Pelgag.

I Concertini series – At the heart of the music

In a rethought Bourgie Hall, with the orchestra at its center, the I Concertini concert series is an intimate concert in-the-round formula. For over an hour conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni takes the spectator on a tour of works seasoned with a series of edifying commentaries and fascinating anecdotes. And for the 11 a.m. performance, a cup of coffee awaits all ticket-holders, while at the 6 p.m. concert, everyone will be greeted with a glass of wine.
