Cinéma Moderne is proud to present quality movies on the big screen, where new releases, special events and cult films are offered to the public.

In March, Cinéma Moderne will present these new releases from Quebec filmmakers: The Decline by Patrice Laliberté, in which a group training to deal with apocalyptic scenarios is surprised by an unforeseen disaster, as well as Simon Beaulieu‘s White Noise, a sensorial essay probing the fate of humanity in the Anthropocene era.

Moviegoers will be able to discover critically acclaimed movies from all over the world, like So Long My Son (Wang Xiaoshuai), a fiction film revolving around the one-child policy in China; O Que Arde (Óliver Laxe), which transports us to Galicia, where a peasant is leaving prison after being convicted of arson; and Bacurau (Kleber Medonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles), a political tale taking root at the time of the death of the matriarch of a village located in the Brazilian hinterland. A black and white version of Parasite (Bong Joon-ho) will also be on the program.

Also screening this month: Canadian productions Anne at 13.000 ft by Kazik Radwanski (selected in the Forum section of the 2020 Berlinale), which introduces a shy and clumsy woman whose attitude towards life will be transformed after skydiving, as well as The Body Remembers When The World Broke Open, by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Kathleen Hepburn, in which two women explore together the consequences of violence.

Cinéma Moderne will offer Mektoub, My Love: Canto Uno by Abdellatif Kechiche, an intimate and sensual vacation chronicle depicting the youth of southern France in the 90s; Rojo, an ambitious thriller by Benjamín Naishtat set in Argentina; Aren’t You Happy, the feminist and offbeat first feature film by Susanne Heinrich, which received the attention of the Berlin and Rotterdam festivals; and Deerskin, by Quentin Dupieux, an obscure tale in which the life of a man starts to spin out of control after he buys a suede jacket that makes him obsessed.

Special presentations are also planned. It will be possible to see Dune, a cult science fiction film by David Lynch, originally released in 1984. The launch of the album Peter Broderick Plays Justin Wright will give rise to an evening of music and projections, while the series Fond en coeur sur le vidéoclip will be back for an entertaining evening. The screening of Claude Fournier’s most recent film, Notre été avec André, about the legacy of director André Brassard, will be preceded by a medium-length film by the latter, Françoise Durocher, waitress.

The essential series Les Petits Modernes will present the two new releases La Fameuse invasion des ours en Sicile by Lorenzo Mattotti and Lou et l’île aux sirènes by Masaaki Yuasa, and the Filministes festival will take over Cinéma Moderne with its youth programming, Les filminis.
