Indie Montreal’s IMTL Press are pleased to announce that the Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra will launch their new album and show “VelkomBak” in association with GIROVAGO, art in motion. The group will perform at Club Soda on April 4th at 8:00 pm, showcasing their new stage show and marking the release of their album both physically and on all digital platforms. The group will play select shows in Ontario (Sunfest Series, Lula Lounge, CMW) and embark on a Quebec tour in the summer of 2020.

GKO’s new production is the culmination of a two-year long creative process. Composed of 10 musicians, 2 dancers and a circus artist, the group developed and choreographed a show that tells the story of a fisherman and other companions during a whimsical voyage at sea in search of some fish and a dream. “VelkomBak” highlights an interdisciplinary and intercultural dialogue by creating a world filled with freedom, joy and mutual support.

GKO is the product of a collaboration between its co-creators and artistic directors Sebastian Mejia and Carmen Ruiz, musical directors Anit Ghosh and Aurelien Tomasi, and a number of incredible players. For GKO’s new show, additions were made to the crew: theatre director Ricard Soler Mallol, circus director Patrick Leonard (Les 7 Doigts de la main), and the director Christian Castagno (Bomba Estereo, The B-52s, etc).

Since 2012, GKO has played over 300 concerts across Canada, 3 international tours (Colombia in 2014, France in 2015 and Czech Republic & Austria in 2016). They have self-produced sold out shows in venues like Club Soda (2014-2015), Rialto Theatre (2017) and Le National (2018) in addition to their sold out monthly events at La Sala Rossa. Their 2015 debut album “Revuelta Danza Party” was nominated that same year at the JUNO and at the ADISQ Awards in the category “Album of the year – World music”.
