The Montreal based Wave 21 is helmed by the lead singer Mary-Lynn Doroschuk, daughter of Men Without Hats member Stefan Doroschuk. The band was conceived in the 1970s when Stefan and his two brothers formed Wave 21, the predecessor Men Without Hats. Wave 21 has been revived, continuing the Doroschuk family tradition, but with Stefan being joined instead his daughter.
Their forthcoming independent debut album was mastered in Nashville in 2018 at the renowned Georgetown Masters Studio. It has since seen critically acclaim in Toronto and Montreal and has had singles spin on college radio around the country. The three last singles also earned airplay on mainstream Canadian Country radio stations.
In advance of the new album, Wave 21 offers “The Last Thing On My Mind”, a cover of the song originally sung by Tom Paxton. Even though the album will only consist of original songs, the band decided to release the modern and original cover of a timeless classic, sporting the band’s country influences. Kim Deschamps (Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo) played lap steel guitar on the single, ornamenting its country-rock twang.
