CANADA’S LARGEST RECORD STORE LAUNCHES E-CONCERT SERIES AND ONLINE SHOP

Iconic SONIC BOOM launches weekly e-concerts to support local Canadian artists and music-lovers.

At a time when countless concerts and performances have been cancelled across the country Sonic Boom. Canada’s beloved record store has created an online venue for Canadian artists to launch their Spring record releases. “The store has always acted as a conduit between the artists and the community,” says owner Jeff Barber. “During this period of social distancing we want to continue to support the music community and connect with our customers.”

Barber and his team faced the challenge of reaching their record buying community and keeping the music alive in this difficult time. “For 20 years I resisted selling records online. Record-shopping is about the tactile, face-to-face experience, and we’ve worked to create a beautiful space for people to come appreciate music and support artists. But for the time being, we realize the best way to serve our community is to take it all online.”

Sonic Boom has been known for its in-store performances featuring local and international artists such as Broken Social Scene, Angel Olsen, Dinosaur Jr, The Raveonettes, Mac Demarco, the list goes on. Now their new e-concert series will feature Canadian artists whose record tours were cancelled due to the pandemic. Artists will do live streamed shows from inside the historic landmark store on Spadina Avenue in Toronto.

In addition to the e-concert series, Barber and his staff worked tirelessly to turn their website into an online shop that ships across Canada and the United States. While Sonic Boom’s massive inventory is not fully accessible online, over 25,000 titles and counting are available for purchase online and for shipping across Canada and the United States.

In the coming weeks, fans who follow Sonic Boom can enjoy live performances with outstanding Canadian talent such as experimental ambient jazz artist Joseph Shabason, Canadian Ethiopian singer Witch Prophet, with many more to be announced.

The current line-up of Sonic Boom E-concerts are:
Joseph Shabason Thursday, April 30th 7pm
Witch Prophet Thursday, May 7th 7pm

Future dates and times for their on-going virtual concerts, as well as their purchase ready inventory can be accessed at SonicBoomMusic.com.
