Axia Films is pleased to announce that the feature film Au Nom de la Terre will be screened across Quebec beginning on July 31st. This first fiction film by French director Édouard Bergeon stars Guillaume Canet, who plays a distraught farmer and delivers a truer-than-life performance in this drama about the decline of family farming and the suicide of farmers.
Pierre (Guillaume Canet) was 25 when he returned from Wyoming to find Claire (Veerle Baetens) his fiancée and take over the family farm. Twenty years later, the operation has grown, and so has the family. It’s time for happy days, at least at the beginning… Debts accumulate and Pierre runs out of work. Despite the love of his wife and children, he slowly sinks…
A family saga, and based on the director’s own story, Au Nom de la Terre takes a human look at the evolution of the agricultural world of the last 40 years. Guillaume Canet plays the main character, Pierre, directly inspired by the filmmaker’s farmer father. Édouard Bergeon wanted the film to have the feel of a modern western, to feel the nobility of the land and the farming profession.
