The Festival Quartiers Danses (FQD) is pleased to announce the launch of its 18th edition, a hybrid edition that will take place online and outdoors from September 11 to 20. During the ten-day festival, 16 co-creations by Montreal choreographers and directors will be posted free of charge on the FQD’s new webcasting platform. Between September 11 and 18, two short films will be released daily at 11 a.m., accompanied by interviews with the artists. In addition, Montreal passers-by will be able to enjoy 17 outdoor performances in the Quartiers des Spectacles, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the McCord Museum, and the Sud Ouest area. Choreographers such as Kyra Jean Green, Andrea Pea, Charles Brecard, Morgane Le Tiec and Véronique Giasson will take over the public squares for spontaneous performances.

The launch of the program took place on, September 11, in the afternoon at the Gamelin Gardens in the Quartier des Spectacles. Choreographers Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo and Kyra Jean Green will present new performances. Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo, a Mohawk choreographer and dancer from the Kahnawake community, will perform as a trio with performers Victoria May and Ivanie Aubin- Malo. Kyra Jean Green will present a duet from her short film TOUCH, performed by Emmanuelle Martin and Charles-Alexis Desgagnés. The full film, inspired by imposed isolation, pandemic and social distancing, will be available on the FQD website on Friday from 11am to launch the online programming of this 18th hybrid edition. The co-creation by Andrea Pea and Bobby Leon, the short film Monique, will also be released tomorrow.

Several public figures supporting the FQD will be present at the launch of the 18th edition. Among others, Monique Simard, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, Céline Lavallée, Director of Support for Artists, Communities and Regional Action at the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres of Quebec and Benoît Doret, President of the Executive Committee and Mayor of the Sud Ouest borough, will speak to launch the FQD’s 2020 programming.
