Earlier this year, the Goethe-Institut Canada asked 10 Canadian and 10 German authors and illustrators “What does reconciliation mean to you?”
We received a host of varied responses to this question, each based on the author’s personal context.
The 20 comics we received for this project are available online here : goethe.de/canada/reconciliation
To explore this theme further, we asked Catherine Emmanuel Brunet to moderate a discussion between three of the authors who took part in this project : Julien Dallaire Charest, Whess Harman, and Burcu Tuerker.
Reconciliation is defined as the desire to bring two distant people together, or two muddled ideas in order to re-establish a sympathy. This theme becomes multiple in any art process, since it can both be part of an intimate and personal reflection, as well as in a social analysis and criticism. Through the medium of comics, they will explore this subject during a lively discussion that will certainly bring together images to thoughts.
