Following the full unveiling of its programming earlier, and after a migration of several titles now being offered to online festival-goers, the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma is very pleased to be able to announce the continuation of its activities planned at the drive-in venue, FNC x YUL from October 8 to 11. In addition, Sophie Dupuis’s film SOUTERRAIN will open the festival on October 7th. The film, originally scheduled for free outdoor screening, will now be presented to the public at the FNC x YUL drive in, free of charge and by reservation.

SOUTERRAIN by Sophie Dupuis presented as the opening film
It is as planned, Souterrain by Sophie Dupuis that will kick off this 49th edition on October 7th during an opening night presented by BNP Paribas. The screening will begin at 8 p.m. at the P11 parking lot of YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport converted into a drive in for the festival. The film’s crew will be reunited for the occasion and will present the film to the public.

SOUTERRAIN sees Sophie Dupuis returns to her native region in Abitibi with this second feature film that offers a brilliant foray into the daily newspaper of mine workers.. The filmmaker reunites director with Theodore Pellerin in this new opus, which also stars Joakim Robillard, James Hyndman, Guillaume Cyr, Catherine Trudeau, Bruno Marcil and Jean L’Italian, among others.

FNC x YUL Drive In from October 8 to 11
In addition to SOUTERRAIN, the FNC will present 4 other exceptional in person events at its drive in: in the comfort of your car, at the P11 parking lot of YUL Montreal-Trudeau International Airport in collaboration with Solotech, festival-goers will be able to rediscover cult films, timeless and unmissable. On the program, then, the mythical anti-paranoid musical PINK FLOYD: THE WALL in tribute to Alan Parker, who died last July; also, Stanley Kubrick’s THE SHINING and Paul Verhoeven’s TOTAL RECALL, which are celebrating their 40th and 30th anniversaries respectively this year. And finally, on Saturday, October 10, the public will be able to (re)discover the entire saga of George Miller during a memorable MAD MAX NIGHT presented by CHOQ.ca.
