There are a myriad of get rich schemes. Humans have always wanted to make a ton of money using as little effort as possible. No different for Luke (Luke Barnett – appeared in episodes of Grounded for Life and Two Guys One Truck) and Tanner (Tanner Thomason – appeared in episodes of Rizzoli & Isles and The Greatest American Hero).
They are led down the path of potential riches when Jane (Margaret Cho – appeared in episodes of The Masked Singer and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) tells them they can make cash by making a film. A faith based movie. Apparently faith based movies make a whack of cash.
So the two set out to make a Christian space movie – A Prayer in Space. First, they need the money to make the film. Luke comes up with the idea of asking his adoptive father, Pastor Mike (Lance Reddick – One Night in Miami, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum), for $100,000. However, this is just one of the hurdles they will face.
As you might have guessed, this is a film about Christian films which attempts to mock Christian films. Points for basing the film on a great concept. Minus points for not doing that well enough. I mean, they spent too much time on showing how dumb these two are and how they have no idea how to actually make a film.
There are moments of real laughs to be had, though. So it kinda leaves you with a wishy washy feeling. Meaning you cannot really decide if you like the film or not. Laughs versus the unfulfilled potential of the story.
