Award-winning film producers sheds light on

ground-breaking adaptive cinema project

in partnership with leading Montreal neurotech startups

LMDP Co, a Montreal-based film+XR content and technology studio founded by the producers of the multi-award-winning feature Les Affamés (NETFLIX’ Ravenous), won the Pivot Award during HUB Montreal’s 4th edition closing night. The studio introduced exclusive clips of the upcoming adaptive cinema experience V F C at the international market for creative industries.

A next-generation customized movie experience

Following the growing trend of event and premium programming for theatrical exhibitors and digital platforms, V F C stands out through the originality of its approach and meets the current challenges of the film industry, making each viewing completely customized through a real-time technology generating sound design and musical score from each viewer’s biometric data. The international jury of HUB Montreal wanted to underline “the remarkable capacity of adaptation and the inventiveness of the project” by awarding the Pivot Prize to LMDP Co. Following the event, the studio, which completed a prototype and initial test screenings of V F C just before the pandemic lockdown, initiated talks with potential international exhibition partners for its expected release in 2022.

A unique multidisciplinary collaborative project

Mixing horror cinema, music, science and technology, V F C tells the story of a female research scientist specialized in musical disorders seeing her life turned upside down after suffering from an auditive Stendhal syndrome. The experience relies on proprietary bio-adaptive audio software and thus promotes a new kind of enriched cinematic experience for viewers. V F C is the result of a unique multidisciplinary creative collaboration between sound designers, music composers, biofeedback artists, user experience researchers, in partnership with two innovative Montreal-based startups, EEG headphones designers Mindset, and RE-AK Technologies, which developed an exclusive multi-modal platform for biometric data acquisition and processing.

“In this period of accelerated entertainment habits shifting during which the film industry is considering novel strategies to bring audiences back in theaters, it is crucial that producers and creatives develop new ways of crafting and exhibiting cinema”, says Charles S. Roy, Lead Creative and Co-Founder of LMDP Co. “Montreal hosts a unique pool of talents in storytelling and neurotech space, which has enabled us to develop a completely new type of cinematographic experience, fully adapted to the viewers’ emotions.”
